TDMH Foundation – Message from Peter Burns, Board Chair
I have always been extremely proud to live in Tillsonburg. It has been easy for me to sing the praises of this great community wherever in our province or country that business or personal travel has taken me. Not born or raised with an official local pedigree, it was my great fortune to marry into a family that has always carried Tillsonburg causes close to their hearts. The Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital has always been one of those causes and my time spent with the Foundation has made it very clear that the Hospital is extremely worthy of the support from all of us.
We would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to our wonderful community for your continued support, and to our tireless Hospital Staff, Board Members, Volunteers and the Foundation. Together you are all making a difference improving healthcare locally. With your help this year we have raised over 1.1 Million Dollars, all thanks to you, our donors.
Each year the Foundation makes an annual commitment with the Hospital to fund the Highest Priority Capital Equipment. This commitment helps provide much needed replacement equipment and new technology to improve care and quality of life in Tillsonburg and area.
Your continued interest and generous gifts throughout a challenging 2021, helped purchase not only the prioritized Capital Equipment but allowed us to focus on the new Orthopaedic Surgical Program. Capital Equipment purchases we were able to assist with included Colonoscopes, Diagnostic Endoscopes, Defibrillator, Glidescope and an ICU Bed to mention a few. We were able to assist with the new safety and security alarm system for patient and staff safety and the new key card entry system. Some of the new required equipment for the Orthopaedic Surgical Program has also been acquired and is currently in use. All of this equipment is necessary to provide better healthcare for you and your loved ones.
We continue to be excited about the Orthopaedic Surgical Program. With your help we can continue to grow our orthopaedic specialty. The Program was successfully launched in April 2021 with the opening of the orthopaedic outpatient clinic. In July of 2021, the first orthopaedic surgical case was completed. To date we have provided care to over 1600 patients in the clinic and have performed almost 100 orthopaedic surgeries. March 2022 was a Milestone Month as the very first Same Day Joint Replacement orthopaedic procedure was successfully completed. We hope to complete another 200 hip and knee replacements this coming year.
As we continue to grow this program, equipment needs continue to grow as well. Requests have been made for new orthopaedic surgical beds, anesthetic gas machines and an instrument tracking system. Our specialized Donor Matching Program has been created specifically with the Orthopaedic Surgical Program in mind. An enormous THANK YOU goes out to the Lessif Family for both their financial support and community leadership on this tremendous project.
We are asking for your continued support to help fund our annual Capital Equipment priorities and this exciting growth opportunity in Orthopaedic Surgery right here in Tillsonburg. Please consider a donation or additional gift this year. You are improving healthcare and accessibility close to home!
