The COVID-19 outbreak at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital (TDMH) has been declared over. As a result of the outbreak, the hospital had closed to admissions on all units except critical care with patients requiring admission being redirected to Alexandra Hospital Ingersoll and Woodstock Hospital.
Prior to the outbreak, significant measures were already in place at TDMH to reduce likelihood of transmission of the virus within the facility. Expanded precautions and surveillance were implemented for the duration of the outbreak. “Diligent infection prevention and control measures were key in helping control this outbreak. We are so grateful for the support of all staff, physicians, leaders, Southwestern Public Health as well as Alexandra Hospital Ingersoll and Woodstock Hospital,” said Sandy Jansen, President and CEO.
A total of 15 patients and 4 staff were linked to the outbreak. “Tragically, 3 patients with significant underlying conditions contracted COVID-19 through the outbreak and passed away,” said Cheryl Pfaff, Chief Nursing Officer. “The team at TDMH want to express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of these individuals,” said Pfaff.
The hospital first declared an outbreak on May 5 on the 2 South inpatient unit. The hospital has now returned to normal operations.
